minnie ideas

Reader Whitney is planning a party for her daughter's 4th birthday party, who has requested a 'Minnie Mouse' theme. She is looking for unique decorating and favor ideas, as well as ways to incorporate the boys. Any ideas for her? I still love this Minnie party, and think these cupcakes (pictured above from Frenchie and the Flea) are cute.

rock star birthday

Angie threw another winning party for her daughter, a 'singing and dancing'-themed birthday. Check out that cake!

On a side note, I love what Irene of Bloesem Kids wrote about her son's last birthday..."I try to live life to the fullest, enjoying each moment, and birthdays play an important part in this for me, not so much throwing big parties but rather standing still and cherishing the moment of yet another year gone by…so we celebrated BIG time with small group…Lode, our eldest, my husband and myself, we ate chocolate cake, sang songs, gave presents..."

I love birthdays (and birthday parties, specifically) because it's one of those times when life stands still for just a moment. Isn't that why all of us love to throw parties for our kids? Their childhood flies by, and it's so nice to have a moment of time to reflect, cherish, and celebrate.

reader question of the week:

"I am having a Finding Nemo theme for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. It will be at the local pool where they have a Splashpad (shooting water that sprinkles out from the floor and other water features). The colors are going to be blue and orange. Need some other ideas for invitations, decor, food, etc... I'm not going to have any crafts since all the kiddies will probably be preoccupied with playing in the pool area. Also wanted to keep the food easy because it is outside and will mostly rely on coolers to keep the food cold. Thanks! -Phuong"
