bonnie cashin's la-la girls

I've got costumes on the brain after watching the Olympics closing ceremony last night and searching for my son's first Halloween costume.

Above are some clips from famous fashion designer Bonnie Cashin's 'la-la girls.' Apparently the la-la girls are 'childhood drawings' of hers that helped secure her first dream job. For more on Bonnie, check out her foundation's website. You can purchase a set of postcards with a sampling of the la-la girls, here.

Bonnie Cashin is famous for coining the phrase "Chic is where you find it."

john derian = costumes (?)

I recently visited the John Derian site to take another look at my beloved Hugo Guinness linocuts (don't own one, just want one). Surprisingly, I stumbled upon a 'costumes' section of the website. Strange- certainly not the first place I'd look for a Halloween costume (or dress-up costume) for my wee one, but these are definitely gorgeous! Starting at $57 for a head and gloves ensemble, they should be. I just got an email from babystyle promoting their new Halloween selections, so apparently 'tis the season. For those of you who start planning ahead- here are some of my favorites. Donkey, yankee, pig, Peter Pan, Princess, above. Many more, here.
